Cubi 3 litres : pour qui et pour quelles occasions ?

3-litre box: who is it for and for what occasions?

The 3L box — equivalent to 4 bottles, or about 24 glasses — is the ideal format for two people on a daily basis, a dinner for 4 guests, or drinks with friends. It is also the best format for discovering a new wine: you have 3 weeks to enjoy it without needing to finish anything in a rush.

The best-selling format — and not by accident

The 3L is by far our most popular B2C format. It ticks all the boxes for a daily wine: easy to store, economical per liter, and large enough that you don't need to reorder every week.

It stands upright in the refrigerator (for whites and rosés), sits on the kitchen counter (for reds), and its tap makes serving easy — simpler than opening a new bottle for every glass. In short, it’s the format you set up once and forget about until the very last glass.

For daily life as a couple

This is the number one use. As a couple, with one glass each in the evening, a 3L lasts about 3 weeks. Within the BIB’s 6-week shelf life, you are very comfortable. You can even take a week off — the wine will be waiting for you, intact.

This format also works very well for individuals who like to have a glass with dinner without feeling obligated to finish a whole bottle. Open, serve, close the tap. That’s it. The rest stays fresh.

For a dinner party of 4 to 6 people

For a dinner party of 4 with 2 to 3 glasses per person, a 3L covers the evening perfectly (8 to 12 glasses consumed out of the 24 available). It also works for 6 people with 2 glasses each — with a bit left in the BIB to finish during the week.

The advantage over a bottle: no "should we open a second bottle?" decision. The BIB flows naturally according to demand. No more half-empty bottles, no more leftover wine spoiling in the fridge.

To test a new wine risk-free

This is the use we particularly recommend. Hesitating between a Beaujolais Gamay and a Rhône Grenache? Get a 3L of each. You have 3 weeks to form an opinion on both, compare them at the table, and test them with different dishes.

With bottles, testing two wines in parallel means two bottles to finish within 48 hours or leave to oxidize. With two 3L boxes, both stay fresh for weeks. It’s a freedom of discovery that didn’t exist before the BIB.

For stress-free drinks

For drinks with 6 to 8 people (2 glasses per person = 12 to 16 glasses), a 3L covers the evening comfortably. The tap makes serving easy without having to uncork multiple bottles on the fly. And if drinks turn into dinner, there’s still plenty left to last.

A 3L rosé in the summer, placed in an ice bucket, is a classic we never tire of recommending. Simple, beautiful, effective.

What the 3L doesn't replace

For a large group of 10 people or more, a single 3L will be tight. That’s when you move up to the 5L or 10L. To learn all about these formats, check out our guide on which box size to choose — with a full table and calculations by occasion.

The 3L is also not designed for large events or professionals — for that, the 10L, 22L, or 33L formats are the way to go. Our Pro section is built for that.

Frequently asked questions about the 3L box

How long does a 3L box last?

For two people having one glass per night, about 3 weeks. For four people having 2 glasses per meal, a good week. Since the BIB keeps for 4 to 6 weeks after opening, you always have a margin.

Can a 3L box go in the refrigerator?

For white and rosé wines, yes — directly in the refrigerator; it stands upright and the tap remains accessible. For reds, a cool, dark place is sufficient (15-18°C). A slightly chilled red in the summer is actually often a great idea.

How many people is a 3L box for?

A 3L (24 glasses) is ideal for 2 people daily or for a dinner of 4 to 6 people (2 to 3 glasses each). For larger gatherings, move up to the 5L or 10L.
