Événement écoresponsable : pourquoi le BIB est la solution évidente

Eco-friendly event: why BIB is the obvious solution

For an event of 50 people, switching from bottles to BIB eliminates 65 to 70 kg of glass and reduces the wine's carbon footprint by 60 to 80%. Less transport, less waste, less CO2 — without compromising on quality or enjoyment. It is the most concrete eco-argument one can offer an event organizer.

Glass waste: an invisible problem until the next day

After an event of 50 people using bottled wine, there are on average 65 to 80 empty bottles to sort, transport, and recycle. Each bottle weighs between 400 and 550 grams — meaning 30 to 44 kg of glass to handle just for the wine.

With 3 10L BIBs or 2 22L BIBs for the same event, that's just 3 to 5 cardboard boxes and bags. The cardboard goes into the recycling bin. The difference in waste volume is spectacular — and the cleanup crews remember it.

Carbon footprint: the concrete figures

Life cycle assessments (LCA) are consistent. Per 1 liter of wine:

In a standard glass bottle: 1.2 to 1.5 kg CO2 equivalent (manufacturing + transport).
In a 5L BIB: 0.3 to 0.5 kg CO2 equivalent for the same volume.
Savings: 60 to 80% of emissions avoided.

For 50 liters of wine for an event of 70 people:
In bottles: approximately 65 to 75 kg CO2
In BIB: approximately 15 to 25 kg CO2
That's 50 kg of CO2 avoided — the equivalent of 250 km by car.

How to present it to your guests

Transparency pays off. Mentioning on your invitation or program that the wine is served in bag-in-box from organic winemakers — and explaining why — is generally very well received. Guests who are unfamiliar with BIB are often pleasantly surprised. Those who are familiar appreciate the consistency of the approach.

A few words are enough: "We have chosen organic wines in BIB to reduce our environmental impact — same quality, less waste, and 70% less CO2." It is factual, honest, and often starts a conversation.

Organic + BIB: the winning combination

An eco-friendly event doesn't stop at the packaging format. Choosing organic or biodynamic wines in BIB means consistency from start to finish: no pesticides in the vineyard, no chemical manipulation in the cellar, lightweight packaging, and optimized transport.

Frequently asked questions

Is BIB really recyclable?

The outer cardboard is recyclable in standard recycling bins. The inner multi-layer plastic bag is not yet recyclable in standard systems — this is the area where BIB can still improve. However, in terms of overall impact (manufacturing + transport + end-of-life), the BIB remains well below the impact of a glass bottle.

How to justify BIB to skeptical guests?

Numbers help: 60 to 80% less CO2, dozens of kilos of glass avoided, and wine from a committed winemaker inside the container. Ask them to taste before judging the packaging — that is the argument that works best.
